RESUMO

The environmental concern has been a constant theme in many socioeconomic sectors in recent years, as has the responsibility of organizations in relation to environmental issues. Companies are seeking actions that show a commitment to environmental management and social responsibility. It is observed, nowadays, that companies whose economic and strategic results are in line with actions based on environmental and social causes are realizing that their administrations are more accepted among their internal and external clients. In view of this, hotel business, as business organizations, have begun establishing different contemporary supports, with competitive and strategic characteristics based on environmental management and social responsibility. And the detailed study of these themes, in relation to national hotel industry, is an extremely important aspect that can form the basis for other studies, and support other socio-environmental projects in many hotels. This study therefore seeks to identify indicative elements in the environmental management and social responsibility of a resort which demonstrates a strategic and competitive vision. Thus, it was decided to analyze the Tropical das Cataratas ECO Resort, located in the city of Foz do Iguaçu, owing to the fact that this hotel company has unique characteristics. For example: it was the first hotel in the South America to receive Environmental Certification ISO 14001, as well as having Quality Certification ISO 9001 and Social Responsibility Certification SA 8000; it is located within the Iguaçu National Park, which was listed by UNESCO in 1986 as a Natural Heritage for Humanity; it is located within one of the most important tourist destinations in the country, welcoming national and international tourists throughout year; it has significant electricity and water consumption and high garbage production (both solid and liquid waste); it is located in strictly private area, far from the urban center; and it has a high demand for technical and professional training of its employees. The research method used was a case study, using primary and secondary data gathered through interviews and in loco visits, and the analysis of the results was based on descriptive interviews and models of environmental management and social responsibility, which provided the environmental and social indicators described in this work. According to the data collected, it can be seen that, for the Tropical das Cataratas, it is essential to maintain and preserve the Iguaçu National Park, as well as ensuring rigorous control of its environmental actions, with its focus on the stakeholders of the business and the local community. Concerning its Policy of Social Responsibility, the Tropical das Cataratas ECO Resort is committed to offering high quality services in a way that demonstrates solid commercial ethics, compliance with local and national legislation, and absolute consideration of human rights, interpreting and respecting the international instruments. It therefore serves as a parameter for environmental and social actions for the hotel sector
