RESUMO

The environmental problems, as a function of its spatial expression, became inherent questions to geographic analysis. The impact studies consist into to assess and to evaluate the effect of the human activities over the natural resources, delineating procedures to be used preventively to avoid negative effects. One of the main problems that have affected the Brazilian natural resources is the presence of erosive processes. In the State of Sao Paulo, such processes are concentrated at the Occidental Plateaus and Sao Paulo Peripheral Depression, where the Cenozoic Formations originated arenaceous areas and therefore extremely high fragility areas. In this perspective, this dissertation considered a systemic agreement of the environmental degradation processes using a Geosystem model. The methodology relating the most diverse space elements was applied in this research, and contributed with the understanding of the landscape spatial organization. Thus, relations between ground, relief, climate and vegetation in lands located in the region of contact between Peripheral Depression, Cuestas Zones and Plateaus had been established. The Geosystem elements had been related with the antropism making possible the elaboration of an index of susceptibility environmental degradation that can guide a more rational use and to minimize the effect of erosive processes in the State of Sao Paulo. This project is part of a thematic program that not only aims at the agreement of processes of environmental degradation in the State of Sao Paulo, but in several areas of Brazil, with some similar geographic characteristics, as example of some regions of the South, Center-West and Brazilian Northeast
