RESUMO

It is fundamental today to seek for a more coherent practice in a globalised contemporaneity with less time and space, and young people who are less willing to blindly obey. The teacher¿s individual performance in the classroom, if not solely accounts for the school openness for life, is a significant aspect of it. Thus, I insert the proposal for the use of comics in Geography teaching. Blending pictures and texts to narrate a story or event, in the early beginnings comics language spread all over the world and has become a mass medium. For a long time the school and academy were close for that language, giving it a lower value for reading. Over time this reality was changed and today many scientific works have it as their subject. Geography as a knowledge field and scientific discourse has used images as a base for its propositions. When we are aware of the world through pictures of it, we see how the education of the gaze is significant aspect of Geography teaching, comics having an important role for this. In this study, I analyse students¿ activities in the classroom, in which Geography is addressed through comics language, in an attempt to stir imagination, creativity and critical thinking skills. With comics students produced, it is possible to analyse their views on their town and neighbourhoods and whether they are different from other views. It becomes an experience and discussion, rather than a definitive work on the subject with closed conclusions.
