RESUMO

The Chapada Diamantina, located in the central part of Bahia state, has a rich geodiversity which happens to be the set of a variety of earth materials, forms and processes that constitute and shape the Earth, with scientific, cultural, educational and/or recreational value. This set consists of geologic formations and structures, morphology, mineral deposits, rocks, soils and other geological events that allow people to know, study to interpret the geological history of the earth and the processes that shaped it. These elements of geodiversity, geographically well delimited, are crucial in understanding the territorial logics in the region, whose territorialization was the result primarily of the mining activities, in especial of the diamond extraction period (garimpos). The extraction of diamonds has created a support structure, leading to the development of the region, expressed in the emergence of cities and the expansion of trade. This cycle has left deep scars, which were the basis for a new form of territorialization the tourism - that emerged from the attraction by the roughness of the terrain left by mining activities, and also by the natural attractions, represented by landforms, waterfalls, caves, among others. Thus, we can consider the practice of tourism in protected areas of the Chapada Diamantina, as the primordial logic, since this activity also involves the mining and its scars. It is noteworthy that even banned, the extraction of diamonds still persists in the region due to lack of supervision by the competent organs of the state and also by the strength of economic power, deriving from the new mineral boom in the world.
