RESUMO
This essay analyses the relation between foot-ball and some texts literary or not - from the time when this sport was introduced in Brazil until the Estado Novo. Its aim is to study social and historical implications in the structure of the texts and in the understanding of the sport, being the concept ofnationalism, with its various senses, the basis ofmost of the texts. This fact justifies the references to the principal theories about foot-ball in the first chapter. There are at least glimpses of them in some of the texts studied in the second and last chapter
