RESUMO

The education of teachers for science teaching has received widespread criticism, particularly on the distance between the training and approaches what is expected of future teachers. In the case of training for the early years of elementary school, it raises other issues, such as little or no training in science content and teaching methods. Because of this, we investigate the possible contributions of a potentially meaningful teaching approach that integrates conceptual and methodological issues in the initial training of science teachers from early years. For this, a sequence of activities that integrates conceptual and methodological issues in the initial training of science teachers for the early years of elementary school on the topic "Optics of Vision" was developed and used with prospective teachers. The didactic approach was based on the theory of meaningful learning, particularly in its critical stance, the contributions of research in science education on students previous ideas on the subject covered and the use of historical and philosophical approaches to teaching. The heuristic instrument, known as Gowin`s V Diagram, was used during the process as a facilitator of learning and assessment tool and data collection. The aim was to investigate the influence of this approach in teacher education, assuming that we have to offer, during training, what is required of practicing teachers. Thus, students have the opportunity to both discuss aspects related to scientific content, its history, its teaching and learning from practical experience in a student status and the discussion of this approach as a future teacher. The public investigated was a class of students in the 5th semester of the Pedagogy degree from a private college in Foz do Iguaçu, PR, regularly enrolled in the course "Foundations of Science and its Teaching I", taught by the investigator. We used a field diary, questionnaires and V Diagrams as instruments of data collection. The qualitative analysis performed with a corpus consisting of the records of 15 students in the class has highlighted the relevance of the approach to the understanding of scientific concepts, the methodology used, especially on the V Diagram and possible future consequences for the educational performance of students involved.
