RESUMO

To reflect and to act upon Education in the transition between millenniums poses a challenge for us to face the heritage of a reality built during a long historical process. Besides all the knowledge accumulated, we lack propositions that may contribute to the overcoming of insistent socio-educative contradictions. Thinking about some of them, we can mention the existence of the youth unassisted by our teaching system and questionable schooling processes to which people who present special educational needs are submitted. The school ? presented in the social actors who give it life ? must strengthen itself in this journey aiming at perfecting its way of dealing with individual and social demands. In that sense, the need to project a school that is able to overcome its own contradictions comprises the specific contribution that each discipline ? Physical Education included ? provides to the accomplishment of the pedagogical project built and implemented by the school itself. So, the present study is based on the implementation of a continuing formation program designed to Physical Education teachers in the city of Londrina, Paraná, and aims at: a) accompanying the modes in which teachers of the Physical Education curricular component deal in their classes with the proposal of school inclusion of students who present special educational needs; and b) pointing out how a continuing formation program can perfect the instrumental component of the Physical Education teacher, aiming the answers to provocations presented by an inclusive educational perspective. The research is based on the action-research and focalization group methodological suppositions. Sixteen Physical Education teachers belonging to the public educational system of Londrina constituted the Study/Work Group focusing on the issues related to the intervention of the Physical Education teacher in inclusive school environments. The meetings were carried out every other week during the years 2002 and 2003. Data collection was carried out by means of: collective interviews, observation and analysis of classes recorded in VHS, and reflective field diaries. The treatment given to the data collected included Group photography, radiography, and cinematography. The results verified indicate important contradictions to be overcome in the school environment, reflecting on the educational assistance given by teachers of Physical Education to students with special needs in educational contexts that intend to be inclusive. Final considerations suggest procedures related to the implementation of continuing formation programs as well as the accomplishment of research in a relational perspective. Thus, it is of fundamental importance that professional autonomy be exercised to strengthen the authorship of pedagogical projects that guarantee the schooling process of our students. Such conjugation of responsible exercise of autonomy with the authorship of effective pedagogical projects may support the authority of the teacher of Physical Education in the school environment. School inclusion of students who present special needs is, in that sense, a provocation that cannot be ignored
