RESUMO

This work aims to investigate the discursive formulations of the speaker in the sermons of Father Antonio Vieira, from a questioning of the concept of subject in the seventeenth century. Considering that the notion of subject is not transhistorical, we investigate formative elements of what is meant today by "me." Along the way we look, especially the concepts of "self care" and free will. We studied also the special procedures of literate productions of the seventeenth century, factors essential to understanding the place of "I who speaks" in the development of seventeenth-century religious sermons.
