RESUMO

The main purpose of the present restrospective clinical study was to evaluate some characteristics of the patient, of the disease and of the radiotherapy as factors associeted to the therapeutic response, to relapse and to survival in 100 patients with epydermoid carcinoma of the uterine cervix, stage IIIb, who were cared at the Center for Integral Assistance to Women s Health, from January 1985 to October 1990. In order to evaluate the association between age, tumor histologic grade, disease parametrial extension, type and dose of radiotherapy delivered with the clinical response, tumor relapse and survival both univariate and multiple analysis were performed. Insatisfactory therapeutic response was significantly associated to age under 50 years, brachitherapy performed and total radiation dose of 7.040 cGy or less. No association between studied factors and relapse within the irradiated area were observed. The overall survival rate at five years was 29% confirming poor prognosis for these cases. The brachitherapy performed, the total radiation dose higher than 7.040 cGy and age of 50 or more years old were also associated to a longer survival time. The response to the primary treatment defined the prognosis.
