RESUMO

Fatigue of optical Fibers is one of the factors that should be analysed in a optical cable project. This phenornenon can be resumed in the grow of flaws, through chemical attack. Ions of water are mainly responsible for this processo. Several papers on the subject are presently available, where the authors are dealing wi th the case of high strength samples. They extrapolate linearly their data to long times (twenty years) and low stress. Contrary to this procedure we perfonn an experiment, without selecting the strength of the samples. We divide the data in three groups of low, medium and high strenth samples. From our set of data, we can establish a comparison of the relation between stress and time for the above three group of data and verify if the lineari ty of the fatigue curve for long times is satisfied
