RESUMO

The water is vehicle of pathogenic microoganisms and noxious substances for human health, so its great importance the control of the physiochemical and microbiological characteristics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of the water consumed by the population of the District of Sana - Macaé - RJ, through physiochemical, bacteriological and parasitological analyses. The water consumed by the population of the Arraial of Sana is obtained from three sources of captation, two in microwash of Palmital (one is groundwater) and one in microwash of Glória. Both stored in different reservoirs (reservoir of Palmital and reservoir of Glória) and the water was distributed for the population without any type treatment. Each season was collected three samples in each reservoir for the physiochemical and bacteriological analyses and one sample for the parasitological analyses to each season. In the captation, due to difficulty of arriving to them, one sample was collected by station for all analyses. Physiochemical analyses were carried out using the procedures described in APHA (1998). The bacteriological analyses were: research of total coliform and thermotolerant coliform (fecal coliform) by the method of Most Probable Number (NMP) using by multiple tubes technique, and counting of heterotrophic bacteria according to methodology of APHA (1998). The parasitological analyses aimed at the research of de Giardia sp. and Entamoeba spp cysts, Cryptosporidium spp oocysts, the samples were collected using commercial filters (1μm of porosity), handicraft filter constituted by gauze absorbent bent ten times and mixed esters of cellulose membranes (3,0 μm of nominal porosity). The sediments retained in the filters were examined by direct microscopy. According to legislation in relation to the physiochemical parameters all samples were approved. The waters of the two reservoirs presented significant differences one in relation to the turbidity, being the water provenient of Glória to show more levels of turbidity than Palmital. In relation to the bacteriological parameters, the results showed high contamination, with levels above of the acceptable limits of Portaria MS n 518/04, and the water provenient of Glória to show more levels of contamination than Palmital. Several parasitic forms including Cryptosporidium spp and Entamoeba spp were observed by optical microscopy in the water in different seasons. Based on the results its necessary to make a treatment of the water before to distribute it for the population.
