RESUMO

The soil is a natural resource, whose functions in the healthy atmosphere are essential for the maintenance and development of life in the planet. Its capacity to function appropriately as substratum for vegetables filter and lid of residues, regulator of the flow of gases, water and energy is defined as the soil quality. The determination of the soil quality index allows us to monitor changes in your attribute, related to the agricultural use, in order to maintain it in acceptable and efficient operation condition for the future generations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the Soil Quality Index (SQI), determining the value and variability, in a cohesive argisolic Yellow Latosol - LAx over the Tableland Soil under a natural forest. The study was located at the natural reserve of the Atlantic Forest in the city of Cruz das Almas ? Bahia. The samples were collected in a grid of 18 x 8 m, with a regular distance of 2 m resulting in 50 repetitions. For determination of SQI were appraised evaluated 11 (eleven) quality indicators: macroporosity, soil density, hydraulic conductivity saturated, water retention at 33kPa (Uv33/ TP), relationship of water availability in the soil (WA/TP), pH, penetration resistance, capacity of cations chenge (CTC), basis saturation value (V%), aluminum saturation value (m%) and organic matter. These indicators were divided by three main functions: 1) Root growth in depth. 2) Conduction and water storage and 3) nutrients supply. The value quality index was 0,4620 indicating of soil a lower quality to vegetal production and its use in agricultural systems require improvement in the quality index to the nutrient supply, conduction and water storage. How much to the spatial variability, the results show that the quality index for this soil presented a low variation of coefficient (10,3%), an effective reach of 5,52m, moderated index for spatial dependence and a minimum number of 23 sub-samples esteem the average of the quality index to the level of 95% of probability and with variation of 10% around the average.
