RESUMO

This research had the purpose of evaluating the changes in dental tipping of the anterior teeth of patients treated with self-ligating brackets orthodontic appliances, using computed tomography images. It has been selected a 10-patient clinical sample, all of them presenting complete permanent dentition, either a class I, II or III malocclusion and a 4 mm maximum crowding of the anterior teeth. All patients underwent a non extraction treatment in the post-graduate Orthodontic clinics at Universidade Metodista de São Paulo, using Damon 2 self-ligating brackets standard prescription by ORMCO. The anterior teeth inclinations (from canine to canine) have been assessed in both upper and lower arches, using tomographic images generated by a NewTom volumetric computed tomograph model DVT 9000 (developed by NIM, Verona, Italy), obtained in two distinct stages, i.e. before the orthodontic treatment (referred as T1), and at the end of the treatment, after insertion of a 0,019x 0,025 stainless leveling wires (referred as T2), respectively. Its been also used the QR-DVT 9000 software and its secondary working station tools as an aid device to accomplish the measuring. The data analysis showed a remarkable increase of the inclinations of the upper canines and lateral incisors, as well as of the lower central and lateral incisors, as compared to the inclinations values indicated in the prescription used in the study, suggesting the 0,019 x 0,025 stainless steel wire inability to reproduce its torque values.(AU)
