RESUMO

A taxonomic survey of the species of Thelypteridaceae Pico Sermo in the São Paulo State, Brazil, was carried out as a contribution to the knowledge of the pteridophyte flora of the State. This study was based on material collected by the author, on observations of natural populations, and on revision of the available collections in Brazilian and foreign herbariao Based on morphological analysis it was possible to recognize 56 species distributed in two genera: Macrothelypteris (Ho Itô) Ching, with one species, and lhelypteris Schmidel, with 55 species o which 21 belong to subgenus Amauropelta (Kunze) A.R. Smo, 15 to subgenus Goniopteris (Co Presl) Duek, seven to subgenus Cyclosorus (Link) Morton, seven to subgenus Meniscium (Schreber) C.F. Reed, four to subgenus Steiropteris (C. Chr.) K. Iwats., and one species with uncertain taxonomic position. Of the 55 species of lhelypteris, three are new species, two belonging to subgenus Goniopteris and one to subgenus Amauropelta. Four new combinations are proposed: lhelypteris cutiataensis (Brade) Salino, lhelypteris iguapensis (C. Chr) Salino, lhelypteris monosora (C. Presl) Salino and lhelypteris schwackeana (Christ) Salino, and two synonyms are proposed. Analysis of geographical distributions revealed that of the 56 species found in the São Paulo State, 20 (35,6%) are restricted to Brazil, of which four are endemic to São Paulo State, 19 (34%) have wide distributions in the Neotropical region, 11 (19,6%) presented more austral distributions occuring only in the South and Southeast Brazil, Bolívia and Paraguay, two (3,6%) have disjunct distribution between South and Southeast Brazil and Bolivia, two (3,6%) have pantropical distribution, and two (3,6%) are paleotropical species considered naturalized in Brazil. New records in the São Paulo State and other Brazilian states were made. Identification keys for the genera, subgenera and species occurring in São Paulo State, decriptions and illustrations of taxa, information on habitat and geographical distribution, and analysis of more important characters for the recognition of family, genera, subgenera and species, are presented
