RESUMO

The current work presents a study regarding the existing instability in the slope localized in the ascent of the Vale das Pedreiras, in the municipality of Camaragibe â PE. The principal objective of the research was to identify the causes and to undestand the mechanisms involved in the problem jointly with the realization of an analysis of the stability of the slope. In the study, an ample campaign of field geotechnical investigation was carried out (topographic surveys, geological surveys, subsurface exploration by SPT borings, permeability tests â guelph and determination of humidity profiles) and in the laboratory (physical, chemical and mineralogical characterization, microstructural analysis, permeability tests, oedometric tests, soilwater characteristic curve determination through filter paper method, Funnel of Haines and Chamber of pressure of Richards and direct shear, direct shear with multiple reversals, ring shear tests and direct shear test with controlled suction). An instrumentation program was implanted on the slope with the installation of pluviometer, Casagrande type piezometers and maximum, water level meters and vertical inclinometers. The data obtained in the laboratory and the field permitted the geological- geotechnical study of the materials involved in the landslide (Barreiras Formation and residual soil of granite), analysis and retroanalysis of the mass movement that occurred, considering the stage of the rupture and reteoanalysis of current situation, condidering the reactivation stage. The predisposition factors was the geology and the anthropic action. The main triggering or aggravating factor was probabily the intense and heavy rainfall. In the rupture stage, the movement of mass was classified as multiple rotational, presenting as general characteristics, a wide sloping step formation along the slope. The process of instability that occurred on the slope happened along the years where the rupture was made in a progressive form in the direction of top to base of slope. After the rupture, during periods of intense precipitation, the movement of mass is being reactivated, provoking unique movemet of mass. Because of it being treated as an uncommon case of rupture in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, the contribution of the study provided, the necessary subsidies for explaining the problem of instability of the slopes belonging to the Metropolitan Region of Recife; as well as in the increase of information regarding the geotechnical characterization of soils of the Barreiras Formation and residual soil of granite
