RESUMO

The purpose of this report is to recommend a new methodology for prospecting ornamental rocks massifs. This is why it is important to supply the technical staff, for the future operations of mining of knowledgement of the petrographic and physical-mechanical features of the rock to be extracted and the regime of tensions to be submitted to define the best systems of exploitation to be adopted. This work also refers to the importance of the regional study for detecting ornamental rock deposits. The regional study was done in a 3000 km area located in SertÃnia quadrangle limited by the following geographic coordinates: 37 to 37Â30â western longitude and 08 to 08Â30â southern lattitude. The specific investigation included a 5 Ha area in the Sitio Jaà lands, district of SERTÃNIA, Pernambuco State. In the examined area, emerge biotite paragneiss intensively folded and migmatized with pink and red colored neossome and maphic paleossome rich in biotite and quartz. As the field survey go by, the detailed geological and estructural mapping was performed including the acting deformation analisys. In parallel the fracturing system was uploaded, from the veins and their treatment through projective stereographic methods (Schmidt net) finishing with the elaboration of split blocks, and the performance of mechanic of rock studies. The application of such system of work had the objective of defining a acting tensions system over the massive and the best way to mine it without provoking the appearance of rock relief fractures. The outcrop studied represents an open quarry for exploiting the mining blocks of recognized âVermelho Frevoâ Granite, which dimensions correspond to 221 m length times 200 m width and an average height of 10 m. In estructural terms, the rock is intensively deformed, affected by 03 (three) phases of deformation where it is observed the presence of phase F1 isoclinal folds and its foliation (S1//S0) affected by inclined folds of phase F2. It presents axial sub-horizontal plane, coaxial axes to the foregoing folds and disposed on 310 Az direction, with a 15 to 25 fall. Such deformations were origined in a tangencial regime, which was progressively affected by a transcurrence regime, that acted over the past folds having inclusively crenulated to foliated S1//S2. The fractures analysis showed that the shear fractures are positioned in the 50 Az and 350 Az directions, with S1//S0, disposed in the 300 Az to 320 Az directions and the tension fractures oriented in the 20 Az to 300 Az intervals and 300 Az to 320 Az. The appreciation of the compressing elipsoide shows the π1 in the 30 Az direction, that explains the directions of the shear fractures, of the tensions and foliations. Based on exposed it can be concluded that the best orientation of cut for the development of open quarry works, to provoke the relief of tensions and avoid the appearance of fractures during the service of mining would be SE-NW direction
