RESUMO

The study of the effect of thermal sterilization and gamma irradiation on compositions of PVC resin with di-2-ethylhexil phatalate (DOP), tri-2-ethylhexil trimellitate (TOTM) and tributyl acetyl-citrate (ATBC) was conducted by measuring changes in mechanical, chemical, and permeability chatacteristics. The PVC used was obtained in powder form, and was synthetized by suspension polymerization. Spectrophotometric analysis was carried out to determine color changes. Elastic modulus, tensile strength and elongation at break were measured by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. Gel permation chromatography was utilized to detect changes in molecular weight distribution. Permeability to oxygen and water were measured. Sterilization with gamma irradiation was seen to induce simultaneous scission and crosslinking. Permeability properties of films plasticized with TOTM and DOP were similar. Permeabilities of ATBC films were significantily higher
