RESUMO

This work presents a study over the fluidization of microcristalline cellulose microgranules (CMC), aimming to the use of these partic1es in a future process of coating. CMC was analised in two ranges of partic1es diameter and in spherical and nonspherical forms. Some fundamental fluid-dynamic parameters were studied, like minimum fluidization velocity, pressure drop, porosity and bed expansion. The effect of rnction due to the fluidization operation were studied too and it was verified that this effect is neglectable within the range ofvelocity used. The bed temperature distribution over the radius was determined at different air superficial velocities. These profiles were analised in the form of verifying its validity as a fluidization quality indicator. It was verifyed the existence of parabolic profiles that tended to linearization when the velocity is rised, indicating an increase in the homogeneity of the concentration of solids in the bed. From the ana1ysis of these distributions, it can be said that a good fluidization quality achieved with operation velocities over seven times the minimun fluidization velocity. The results obtained in this work show that the CMC can be fluidized with quality and the solids circulation shall be adequate to the coating process in fluid bed
