RESUMO

This work describes the modification of an analytical method (adsorption chromatagraphy using acid alumina) for the separation of the recoil species found in chromium (III) acetylacetonate which has been irradiated at ambient temperature with thermal neutrons in a nuclear reactor. The same method was used for the separation of the recoil species found in chromium (III) hexafluoroacetylacetonate, irradiated with thermal neutrons at ambient temperature. Recombination reactions of the fragments present after dissolution of the irradiated solid were studied by addition of various concentrations of the respective complexing agents (acetylacetone or hexafluoroacetylacetone) to the solvent used. Applying the analytical methods developed in this work, the behavior of recoil chromium-51 as a function of post-irradiation thermal treatment was studied. The results of these expeximents indicate a strong similarity of annealing behavior of the chromium recoil atoms with the two complexes. Considering these results, a step wise mechanism is proposed for the annealing reactions in both Cr(acac)3 and Cr(hfa)3.
