RESUMO

One technique has been used largely in production of anhydrous ethanol is azeotropic distillation with benzene, which carcinogenic properties are well-known. An alternative process, ecologically viable, is extractive distillation by salt effect. The use of a soluble salt in dehydration of ethanol allows a reduction in energy requirement, besides producing en ethanol free of separating agent. An important stage in the production of anhydrous ethanol by extractive distillation with salt is the salt recovery to be reused in the distillation column. Two process flowsheets were proposed to the production of anhydrous ethanol by extractive distillation with potassium acetate, which differ basically in ethanol production stage. In one of these processes, the aqueous dilute ethanol feed is submitted directly to extractive distillation with potassium acetate and the recuperation of the salt is realized in a multiple effect evaporation system and in a spray dryer. In the other process, the ethanol feed is submitted to preconcentration in a distillation column free of salt and afterwads submitted to salt distillation and the recuperation of the potassium acetate is realized solely in a spray dryer. The equipament utilized in processes were simulated individually and connected among themselves in order to proceed the global simulation of the plant...
