RESUMO
In this work, we investigated the fabrication of ultrathin films of natural rubber latex (NRL), carboxymethyl-chitosan (CMC) and magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (MNP) in different supramolecular architectures. The materials choice was based on the mechanical properties and biocompatibility of NRL, antimicrobial action of CMC and magnetic properties of MNP, with the aim of extending possible applications to the biomedical area. The films were made with the layer-bylayer (LbL) technique in which a solid substrate is sequentially immersed in solutions of distinct materials, with spontaneous adsorption of molecules on the solid surface. MNP were synthesized by co-precipitating Fe(II) and Fe(III) salts, and were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) of cast films. UV-vis spectroscopy was used to study the kinetics of the deposition process and infer the best immersion time for the LbL fabrication. FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies were used to monitor physicochemical interactions among the film components. Micro-Raman mapping was used to verify the distribution of different materials onto the supramolecular structures formed. The film morphology and roughness were analysed using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), helping the assessment of the film morphology. Based on parameters such as adsorbed amount of material and surface uniformity, an LbL film architecture was selected to be deposited onto flexible substrates. The response of the flexible membranes to an external magnetic field was quantified in order to check its relationship with the number of deposited layers
