RESUMO

In this study we have synthetised FeOCl and some of its intercalation compounds involving Lewis bases as intercalants: n-buthylamine (nBA), triethylamine (TEA), benzylamine (BZA), ethylenediamine (EDA) and diethylenetriamine (DTA). These synthesis were optimized through the control of some reaction parameters such as temperature and time. The reactions were followed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), by monitoring the peaks referring; to the (010) and (020) planes. The obtained products were chemically characterized to determine their stoichiometries. The compounds were then studied using the following techniques: thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Mössbauer spectroscopy (MS), magnetic suceptibility measurements (MSM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and electrical conductivity measurements (ECM). The main results obtained were: i) The observation of an increase in the interlamellar distance in FeOCl and a lowering of its crystallinity due to intercalation reactions. However, the lamellar structure is maintained; ii) The confirmation that, in these compounds, the phenomenon of charge transfer is responsable for the stabilization of the host-guest structure; iii) The confirmation that the presence of guest molecules in the interlamellar region leads to changes in the host matrix physical properties, such as thermal behaviour, texture, morphology, and electric and magnetic properties.
