RESUMO

Magnetoresistive ceramie compounds of perovskite structure were prepared by theconventional ceramies preparation method, mixing appropriate proportions of the oxidesand carbonates of the elements comprising the compounds of interest. The structurgmagnetie and electric properties of these AMnO3 compounds were characterized in thiswork. The analyses of evolution of the behaviors of the magnetie and electric propertieswere done taking as parameter the structural effects like the size of average ionic radius inthe A site and the size dispersion or disorder in the site. To accomplish this, compoundswith nominal composition (TRll-yTR2y)1-x(M11-z M2z)x MnO3 (TR1, TR2 = La, Pr, Nd, Gd,Ho, Y, Er, M1, M2 = Ca, Sr) were prepared. The interest in the technological applications of these materiais leads to the searchfor high niagnetoresistance values near room temperature. Considering this, wc preparedour samples in such a way as to have the temperature of the magnetoresistance peak, that isassociated, to the Curie temperature Tc, near room ternperature. The changes in the elecúic and magnetie behavior in general are aecompanied byimportant structural changes. The results of the X-rays diffraction analyses shows theformation of the perovskite phase. The magnetic analyses show for the majority of thesamples well defíned magnetic heterogeneity and in some cases a broadening of themagnetie transition, possibly indicating a compositional gradient. The resistivitymeasurement without and with applied magnetic field show great values for themagnetoresistance of the samples. Several heat treatments under different atmospheres and conditions have bee donevarying the temperature and time of treatment, the atmosphere composition being air, oxygen or vacuuni. The results show marked changes in the magnetie and electricbehaviors of the heat treated swnples
