RESUMO

The insertion of sustainable technical innovations, such as solar technology, in the world market, is a consequence, among other factors, of a well elaborated project resulting from accurate knowledge of available solar resource in the locality. Therefore, knowing the potential of solar resource is a prerequisite for greater diffusion and use of this new technology. Previously published works involving the modeling of the distribution bi probability distribution of daily solar radiation have only considered groups of localities situated in the Northern Hemisphere, therefore, the universality of those models should be verified. Previously published works involving the modelling of the distribution bi probality distribution of daily solar radiation have only considered groups of localities situated in the Northern Hemisphere, therefore, the universality of those models should be verified. In this work the probability density function and the accumulated distribution function of daily radiation in 24 localities were analysed, which comprised of extensive tropical and intertropical regions in Brazil, situated between latitude 1.27Â South and latitude 30.01Â South. Regarding the behaviour of the models for the Brazilian localities, it is observed in a general way that the Saunier model presented better results, except in temperate climate localities where the best results were established by the model proposed by Hollands and Huget. Besides identifying among the proposed models in literature those that are better adjusted to each locality, this study confirms the previously conclusions obtained by Saunier which concern the local characteristic behaviour of the probability distribution, while significant differences were observed regarding the analyses carried out in the Northern Hemisphere
