RESUMO

This thesis studied the mollusk gathering activity through biometry, fishery spatial distribution and influence on the stock of Anomalocardia brasiliana (Gmelin, 1791) (Bivalvia, Veneridae). The area comprised 202,500m2 including the Coroa do AviÃo, Ramalho and Mangue Seco sand banks. Samplings were carried out from September/2006 to June/2007. In the three areas it was established three transects with three equidistant stations and four replicas of 0.0626m2. It was established three size classes (<10 mm, 11 to 20 mm and ≥21 mm). A total of 56,865 individuals were collected in depths with maximum of 18 cm, with maximum size of 36 mm. It was registered significant difference in abundance and size among the three banks, with Kruskal-Wallis-Dunn,g.l.=2; 645; p<0.05, and confidence interval of 0.95. The spatial analysis of the mollusk gathering stations made possible to delimit five gathering sites. The five mollusks gathering sites presented similarity according to Principal Coordinates Analysis. Maximum density was registered to Ramalho (3779 ind.0.0625m-2) with shells <10 mm and maximum stock was in Coroa do AviÃo (61 ind.0.0625-2). It was made 62 interviews with the mollusks gatherers, most of them males (52,4%). The income was 1 minimum salary to 53% of the interviewed gatherers, most of them living in municipalities close to the banks, moving to the area in small boats with and without a motor and by foot. The mollusk gathering is made during low tide, with few instruments, and the mollusks are kept in 60 kg bags. The mollusk gathering activity looked for areas near the water to make easier the fishery art. There are site dispute by objective and subjective criteria. The mean fishery effort was of 0.50 and mean CPUE 9.07. It is recommended that the maximum size limit for gathering should be 21 mm, size nearly of the maximum fishery modal value. To establish a ordination plan to this area it is necessary to carry out further studies increasing the temporal scale and studying the specie ecology in relation to biotic and abiotic parameters. This study is the first contribution to the sustainable development of human activities in the Itamaracà estuarine ecosystem
