RESUMO
In this work, the behaviour of M2 high speed steel during hot rolling, was studied. Both qualitative and quantitative characterization was undertaken of the carbides present before and immediatelyafter true strains sufferedby the material due to hot rolling. For this characterization the techniques of optical and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and quantitative metallography were used. The loads corresponding to each test and the flow stresses were calculated using Sims model. Equations were derived from plots of flow stress versus true strain for each test temperature, with the aim of allowing projection of the dimensions of industrial equipment and to improve the design of the rolling of M2 high speed steel. The shapes of these curves were also correlated with the microstructure of the steel. Each sample was examined to allow correlation of the hardening and softening phenomena (represented by the curves offlow stress versus true strain) with its microstructure
