RESUMO

A comparative anatomical study was made of two orange cultivars Folha Murcha and Pêra, both beonging to the species Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck. The objective of the study was to determine whether the permanent rolling of the leaves of cultivar Folha Murcha is accompanied anatomical modifications. Leaves at three stages of development were used: young leaves, expanding leaves and adults leaves. At each growth stage, section were cut at the apex, middle third, base and edge of the lamina, Section of the apical, median and basal regions of the petiole were also made. The results obtained showed that the leaves of these two cultivars are very similar in all the regions studied. Some differences were, however, noted. These included the width of the epidermal cells, the arrangement of vascular tissues of the midrib in the middle third region, the more precocious differentiation of the mesophyll cells in the young leaves of cultivar Folha Murcha
