RESUMO
Objective: To assess the memory in active and sedentary elderly women. Method: Analytical case-control study with 26 older and these are divided into two groups (active and sedentary), aged between 60 and 86 years. Data collection was done through the evaluation of socio-demographic data and body mass index (BMI), whose variables were facing. Results: prevailed among the elderly aged 60 to 64 years (53.8%), brown (50%), elementary education (38.5%). BMI between 17 older of the two groups was less than 30 kg/m2 (65.38%) and type of physical activity that prevailed was ballroom dancing (62.5%), the level of systolic blood pressure (SBP) showed significant differences between groups being between 135.6 mm Hg and 141.0 mm Hg. In this study the rate of FEV1 showed significant differences between active and sedentary elderly, with p less than 0.05, the FVC and SpO2 were not much difference between the two groups. The results of the sub-scales MSEQ level of memory self-efficacy (NAE) and strength of memory self-efficacy (FAE) between the groups were statistically significant (p less than 0.05). The level and strength of memory tasks, significant differences were observed (p less than 0.05) between the active and sedentary; analysis of areas did not differ between the two groups, the Mann Whitney tests were not revealed differences between the sub-scales and force level in both groups. MSEQ the results of the questionnaires revealed that the active group had a greater number of statistically significant variables, namely P = 0.70 for more sedentary as compared to group. Regarding MIA the active group showed a significant correlation between FEV1 and FVC and Control and Control. Conclusion: It is concluded that physical activity produces effects in the memory of the elderly considering that, while exercising the body, the elderly improves cardiorespiratory fitness and mental performance, reflecting these results positively in their daily activities.
