RESUMO

Analyzing the fact that, todays, the bracket/resin union is mecanic and chemically gotten, we decided to evaluate: 1) shear bond strenght of the resin/bracket interface using three commercial marks of resin composites: Concise Orthodontic (chemical-cured), Transbond XT (light-cured) and Filtek TM Z-250 (light-cured); 2) the effect, in this bond strenght, of the sandblasting with aluminum-oxide in the metallic bracket-base, associated or not to a resin adhesive system; 3) the efficiency of the methodology used for evaluate the bond strenght of the resin/bracket interface. The Abzil bracket code was U1L- 281-002X, whose lineal collage area is 12,5 mm2. In agreement with the methodology used and after analysis and discussion of the obtained results, the conclusions were: Concise Orthodontic, Transbond XT and FiltekTM Z- 250 resin composites, when applied in the Abzil metallic brackets-bases, without any previous treatment (control groups) presented similar shear bond strenght values; the treatment with an specific adhesive + resin composite in the bracket-base, Concise Orthodontic and Transbond XT presented similar results, but statistically superiors to Filtek Z-250 for adhesion in the resin/bracket interface; the sandblasting with aluminum-oxide in the bracketbase is statistically more effective, for the Concise Orthodontic and Transbond XT resins composites, than FiltekTM Z-250; the sandblasting with aluminumoxide + specific adhesive + resin composite in the bracket-base was statistically more effective for the Concise Orthodontic and Transbond XT systems, than the FiltekTM Z-250; in a general way, 12.5% of cohesive fractures can be considered minimal, indicating that the methodology used can be considered reliable to evaluate the specific resin/bracket interface bond strenght.
