RESUMO

The fast growth of Brazil in the last decades, broadly divulged by the media wordwide is threateming severely the great diversity of the ecosystems found in the Country. In the State of Tocantins, Brazil, with the broadening of the agricultural and livestock frontier, of the real estate espansion and of the mining activities, great strips of the remaining vegetation of the Cerrado, until nowadays little studied, are being removed to open space to the development. This study is the result of researh developed during the period from July 2005 to July 2007, due to the concern with the sustainability of the remaining fragments of the Cerrado Bioma and that were broadly researched in the Project Conservação e preservação de recursos naturais na sub-bacia do Ribeirão São João: uma proposta de participação comunitária no processo de gestão ambiental (Conservation and Preservation of natural resources in the sub-basin of the Ribeirão São João: a proposal of communitary participation in the environmental management process), managed by the Fundação Universidade de Tocantins UNITINS and sponsored by the Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. Petrobrás (Programa Petrobrás Ambiental environmental Petrobrás Program). The understanding of the characterization, of the composition, of the communitary structure, of the physiognomy of the arboreous component and of the similarity of two fragments of the Cerradão do Complexo de Ciências Agrárias (Agrarion Sciences Complex), Palmas-TO, Brazil; the knowledge of the moisture content and of the germinative behavior of the seeds os Buchenavia tomentosa Eichler (merindiba), Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. (mutamba), Hymenaea stigonocarpa Mart. ex Hayne (jatobá-do-cerrado) and Enterolobium gummiferum (Mart.) J.F. Macbr. (orelha-de-macaco) by means of the germination percentage, of the germination speed index and of the Tetrazolium test, providing subsides about the viability of the batch of seeds to optimize the propagation of Cerrado species, as well as the study of the evaluation of the starting push by means of the survival percentage stand and of the establishment after planting an the field of the seedlings of the Cerrado native arboreous species (Dipteryx alata Vogel, baru, Hymenaea stigonocarpa Mrt. ex Hayne, jatobá-do-cerrado, Guazuma ulmifolia Lam., mutamba, and Enterolobium gummiferum (Mart.) J.F. Macbr., orelha-de-macaco) under different fertilization condition, used for the restoration of a degraded area of Cerradão to rescue its natural characteristics; will serve as essential factors for the discussion and the application of forest management techniques to restore the material forests.
