RESUMO

The study was carried out on the Rio Panga Gallery Forest, in side Ecological Station of Panga, in Uberlândia, MG, Brazil. Cerrado is the dominant vegetation of the region, with Gallery Forests along in the river valley, forming a distinct landscape. Two methods were used for surveying the local flora and phytosociologicalstructure of trees species, in the two study areas, distant 100m from each other. The point-centered quarter method was applied in tranversal transects from the river margin to forest edge. Thirthy plots, of 10m x 10m were distributed equitablely accordling to the environmental variations (Dike, Middle and Edge of Forest), following the same sampling design for both areas. AlI trees with 5cm diameter (dbh), at least, were sampled in alI points and plots. Seven tree species abundants in studies areas, and characteristic Gallery Forest were choosed for the population structure studies: Callophyllum brasiliense Camb., Copaifera langsdorfii Desf., Faramea cyanea M. Arg Protium heptaphyllum March., Tapirira guianensis AubL, Talauma ovata St. Hil. and Tabebuia umbellta (Sond.) Sandw. The height and diameter at the base were measured for alI juvenile plants (seedling and saplings). The data were plotted as frequency distributions histograms. Moreover with the plant species data, soil samples were collected for alI plots (0-20cm deep) and analizeds for physical and chemical parameters. The water tables changes were measured monthly, at 1,0m perfurations. The areas showed some differences in the floristic composition, dominance of species, total diversity, environmental heterageneity, soil parameters, water tables changes, structure of populatians and quality of boundary vegetation. ...
