RESUMO

Contemporary business conditions, with frequent changes in company relations, have demanded a relentless effort from the companies in order to increase their competitiveness. A careful strategic formulation, as is the use of quality strategies, with the intention of identifying the causes of main problems and executing the adequate action plan, allows the company to achieve goals and performance increase. The objective of this dissertation consists in identifying the existing significant associative relations between quality strategies and company performance, as well as the influence of contingent variants (generic strategy, company size, decision process and technological level) in such associations. As for the research instrument, questionnaires were sent by post to the directive staff of industrial companies with at least 100 employees in the State of Pernambuco. The collected data were analyzed through statistical techniques, such as reability analysis (Cronbachâs Alpha), descriptive statistics, factorial analysis, bivariate and multiple linear regression. This study demonstrated a significant association between quality strategies and company performance. The results validate the general ideas that quality strategies have significant and positive relations with most dimensions of company performance. In addition, it was possible to verify that contingency variables influence existing associations between quality strategies and company performance
