RESUMO

In this study, our analysis showed how occurred the diffusion process, received and debate the ideas and conceptions from doctors and kardecists spirits for these two groups in the city of Juiz de Fora, in the first half of the 20th century. We identify the main ideas and arguments of both groups, the main moments and reasons of quarrel. Moreover, we established the local relation of the events and productions in whiche were en vogue in many Brazilian urban centers, mainly in Rio de Janeiro (national capital in that time) and São Paulo. Through the analysis of the main ideas defended and debated for the doctors and local spirits, we established a comparison with what it occurred in these two other regions. Demons have detached to the movement of repression to the illegal exercise of the medicine and which the penetration, influence and use of the psychiatric and medical ideas on the spiritism between doctors and for the proper spirits. With this, the groups are emphasized the strategies of both to place themselves in the public space as groups with credibility, as they both possessed public visibility. We see that did not have a systematic confrontation among the groups in the molds of that it occurs in Rio de Janeiro, for example. We detach the fact of these conflicts to have occurred with little frequency, mainly through no religious press, letters published in periodicals and its respective answers, also published. Moreover, the fact have been a "war between equal", where both sides were members of the intellectual elite, cultural and politics in the city
