RESUMO

This research consisted of a transversal study with representative sampling of health northern region public schools of the Secretariat of Health of the Federal District, with children of the first grade elementary school. The overall aim was to evaluate the facts associated to the spend of the children of the first grade elementary school of health northern region public schools of the Federal District, with the food spending. Social economic data were collected as well as anthropometric measures (weight and height), and related questions to the childrens financial support. The results were presented in two papers. The first paper was named how much money children spend with autonomy and theirs preference with kind of food. The results analyzed showed that 88.2% of the children had financial resources, and spent mainly with unhealthful foods. The average spent reached R$ 4,70/ month and it was proportional to the social class and the mother schooling. The second paper was: "Overweight and obesity profile in students from the heath northern region of Federal Disctrict, 1998 and 2004", in which it was discussed the weight excess in the students (10.8 %) as an problem of Public Health, although no alterations were observed over the last 6 years. The results pointed to the necessity of interventions of the State leading to the promotion of the healthful feeding on measures in order to regulate the health protection of its population is welcome.
