RESUMO

This dissertation deals with the production of Darcy Ribeiro and reads his fictional texts having his concerns for the native indian peoples and the formation of the brazilian people as the focus of the study. Having the novels Maíra and Utopia Selvagem as the starting point, this dissertation proposes an intertextual reading that takes into account Ribeiro?s anthropological theory of ethnic transfiguration as well as explores the links with other texts and books that can be read in his production, and mainly with some narratives of ?discovery? and ?foundation? of Brazil. Based on the study of Michel Foucault about the discoursive units, such as ?ouvre? and ?book?, and the problem of the ?author?, and making use of the concept of transtextuality as well as the critical terminology by Gerárd Genette, this dissertation reads a dispersed amount of texts, traditionally belonging to distinct discoursive domains, trying to establish between them a continuity that could satisfy the impetus for a reading of the issue of national identity in the production of Darcy Ribeiro, having his fictional texts as the starting point, and that contributes to increase the currently small critical fortune about the national identity in his novels.
