RESUMO

This dissertation examines the transformation of dance frevo so receptive to disputes narratives and hierarchies of the field of art, based on post-colonial discussions. And, through the analysis of plays, discusses the choreographic production that in Recife, in the 1990s, provided evidence of popular dances as a creative and plastic. The ideology that legitimizes this production is traditionally linked to the idealization of the nation as a homogeneous community, which operates deletions of social disputes. However, this scenario, created in the boundary between the conventional art and popular art, is as space for artistic productions that diverge from conventionally accepted standards.
