RESUMO

This research is an attempt to follow one of the citys invitation, that one of its speech, of its communicative flows, of its life experiences and habits, which sail on the time and hew up the space: the urban space. Urban space made of levels, levels of techniques, levels of methods, levels of values and dreams, of collective biographies that takes the city as their ultimate uterus: environs. Environs seeking to embody the way those biographies perceive and agency information from their respective urban semiosphere. Our aim looks for the revelation or at least the indication of that very peculiar manner each habitant reads and speaks, and eventually introduces his/her frequentative, dwelling spaces. The strategy planned to this work consists in giving photo cameras to those individuals, which were selected according to rigorous criteria. Their assignment is to catch those meaningful places and moments, built on an everyday-basis, from their environs. Six cities of Minas Gerais inlands were chosen and arranged into three groups, based in their demographic density. The selection supposes that distinctive populations can offer different forms of capturing and expressing spatial appropriation: spaces cognitively constructed and conveyed throughout the visual culture tissues. The research trip brought us so far by concluding that those six cities exhibit curious identities concerning their social-cultural and historical grounds. Grounds that silently interfere in the way each photographer shows preference when shooting public and private spaces in which he/she lives. It suggests the building up of a collective imaginary that determines their respective society foundation. The results also outline as far as those Minas Gerais population clusters are under contamination due to big cities visual culture, thanks to the linkage made available by digital media. Settlements that communicate to villages, villages that visialogue to cities, cities that feed one another by cultural interchanges. Fuzzy, imbricate levels of life immanence, breath cycles, blood flows, nerve tokens environs that systemically environ themselves: (r)environ(s). Some theoretical elements support the path of this investigation, namely, the concepts of Technosphere and Psychosphere, Fixes and Flows, Object systems and Action systems as discussed by Milton Santos; Program and Project as pointed out by Giulio Carlo Argan in his text The Crises of Design; as well as the visual reading and interpretative categories of urban spaces picked up and conceived by Lucrécia Ferraras work on visual semiotics. Alongside the debate, it is also possible to detect our dialogue with some important thinkers who have contributed with some ideas, so that this research could succeed, they are: Kevin Lynch, Vilém Flusser, Richard Sennet, Guy Debord, to note just a few.
