RESUMO

Present dissertation, which is linked to the research line of Pedagogic and Didactic Processes and Methods of the Master Post-Graduation Program in Education at the Universidade Regional de Blumenau (FURB), presents a qualitative research carried out with the overall goal of analyzing the understanding of technology teachers of SENAI in Jaraguá do Sul SC on competence and how that is used throughout their pedagogical practice and evaluation. Its specific goals were: to understand how the teachers in the technology courses of SENAI Jaraguá do Sul Santa Catarina view competence and to investigate how same use the concept of competence while evaluating their students, as well as in their pedagogical practice. Mentioned research comprises ten (10) teachers of SENAI-SC Jaraguá do Sul, who work using the competence approach. The data collecting was carried out in August and September, 2007, having as instruments the structured interview. The analysis of interviews allowed an overall view of the understanding the teachers participating in the research have on competence as being knowledge, skills and attitude regarding education, concept perceived likewise by the institution they serve. Furthermore, the research proved that, in Teaching by Competence, the teachers applied different means to have students attain the competence proposed by the professional profile, being said work in accordance to what is suggested by the institution. As per evaluation, the teachers use several strategies, such as observation, laboratory, practical activities, case study, analysis of critical capacity, questioning and developing of problems
