Ensino aprendizagem do conceito de função: pesquisas realizadas no período de 1970 a 2005 no Brasil

RESUMO

The present study aims at comprehending the students difficulties on the concept of function observed in our teaching experiences of Mathematics, as well as in researches that deal with this theme. A study of state of art was performed since it was considered adequate to accomplish the objective announced. The study included essays and theses of doctorates developed in Brazil, besides two international articles and a chapter of a book. The period in which these productions were achieved is from 1970 to 2005. The study was developed in two phases. The first one constituted the mapping of forty-six researches that were classified into four categories: type (essay or thesis) and year of conclusion; Regions, IES and Post-Graduation Programs; title, author and advisor; and research-oriented questions. The organization of data, in the indicated categories, made several measures possible, such as: the analysis of the production growth in the period; the existence of researches continuity - or the lack of it; the places where they have been developed; the identification of the authors and advisors; and, at last, the selection of the researches about learning difficulties of the concept of function, from the oriented question, observing the compilation and analysis of the results. The second phase included the selection of nine assignments, whose parameters of choice were the "research-oriented questions" and the analysis of this production. The analysis of two articles of an international periodical considered relevant in the field of the Mathematics Education and a chapter of the book "As Idéias da Álgebra" amplified the study and made comparisons possible. The authors of the researches show, as results, among other aspects: that the teachers in general and the textbooks present the notion of function using a technical terminology, distant from the students reality; that the research results are not incorporated in the books; and that learning barriers may be created if the teaching techniques are not favorable to the representing conversions
