RESUMO

Passion fruit is composed of about 630 species, which include economically three species: Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa, Passiflora alata and Passiflora edulis. Considering that their culture is prominent in South America with about 90% of world production and that Brazil is the worlds largest producer of this culture the objective of this study was to evaluate the emergence and early growth of seedlings of passion fruit rootstocks to obtain and verify quality changes by using the cleft grafting in top hypocotyls in full rift with apical cuttings of passion, using the three most economically important species for our country, this is justified since the untimely death of passion can impair the production potential of this culture. The fruits were collected from different orchards in the region Caparaó ES. The seeds were extracted from fruit selected and prepared for seeding aiming the production of healthy and viable rootstocks for grafting. A completely randomized design (CRD) in factorial 2 x 3, making six treatments with four replicates of twenty-five seeds was used. The treatments consisted of intact and scarified seeds of the three species under study. After seeding was evaluated: emergency, stem diameter, root length and plant height, and may conclude that scarification increases the emergence of the species P. f. edulis flavicarpa and P. alata and the sowing of the three species can be made at the same time to achieve the diameter of graft after 150 days. For grafting the cuttings were collected in the apical region Caparaó Espírito Santo and Universidade Federal of Viçosa-MG (UFV). The grafting was performed in the Seed Laboratory of the Center for Agrarian Sciences, of Universidade Federal of Espírito Santo - Alegre-ES. A completely randomized design (CRD) with nine treatments and four replications and ten plants was used. After the grafting was verified weekly development of the grafts showing their length and number of leaves that appeared, for a period of 60 days. After this period the grafts were taken to the laboratory from seeds of the Center for Agrarian Sciences, Universidade Federal of Espírito Santo - Alegre-ES for final evaluation where there was: root volume, fresh and dry weight of roots and shoots. It was found that based on the values that the best statistical associations between scion x rootstock are: Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa x Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa x Passiflora edulis Sims and Passiflora edulis Sims
