Em busca do equilÃbrio perdido com a natureza: a relaÃÃo entre uma comunidade urbana em JoÃo Pessoa â PB com a mata, o rio e os novos projetos sÃcio-ambientais

RESUMO
This thesis aims to analyze the socio-nature relation by concentrating its investigation on the community of SÃo Rafael when groups of grangers and washerwomen moved the local lifestyle. The area is located in JoÃo Pessoa and it is intersected by natural elements such as Mata do Buraquinho, Rio Jaguaribe, and Flora Medicinal. The study also includes the period related to the environmental problems which changed the content of that relation. Simultaneously, it attempts to investigate the practices of the environmental projects developed in the community by the CoordenaÃÃo de EducaÃÃo Ambiental â SUDEMA through the Reciclagem de Papel e GeraÃÃo de Renda project (a project on paper recycling and income generating) conducted by Escola SÃo Rafael and based on the Tem uma Horta na Minha Escola project (there is an horticulture in my school), supported by the university extension program through the project named RemÃdios FÃceis de Fazer para DoenÃas FÃceis de Pegar (medicines easy to make for diseases easy to catch). A qualitative methodology along with the Oral History was applied in order to reach the goals of the study. The results of the research showed that the situations experienced by the groups of grangers and washerwomen demonstrated balanced relations with the jungle, the river, and the medicinal flora. During that period, there was a âtradition breakâ and some unbalanced relations took place. The environmental projects attempted to reestablish the âlost balanceâ with these natural elements. Although the project on paper recycling and income generation has managed to change the youths behavior towards the issue of water and garbage, the projects RemÃdios fÃceis de fazer para doenÃas fÃceis de pegar and Tem uma horta na minha escola could be widely accepted in the community for their introducing relevant aspects of the collective memory into their practices
