RESUMO

Ecosystem services provided by the biodiversity are that ones associated to live organism and that, in last analysis, affect natural process of human interest. Scarabeine dung beetles has been in evidence in the last years in function of the array of services provided, both in natural as in agricultural landscapes. This work aimed to evaluate the effect of land use systems in some of the ecosystems services provided by dung beetles, in the Brazilian Amazon forest, Amazonas state. This work was carried out in March and September, 2008,. It was analysed the influence of 5 different land use systems: Primary Forest (FP); Secondary Forest (FS); Agroforest (AF); Agriculture (AG); and Pasture (PA). In each land use system was selected 15 replicates sites 50 to 100 m apart. Each site received one evaluation arena of environmental services and three human baited pitfall traps to collect the scarabeine. The dung removal, the earth excavation, and the secondary seed dispersion by scarabeine were evaluated. In general, all environmental services responded in a similar way among the land use systems, following a gradient of complexity. The primary forest behave different from the others systems, followed by the secondary forest, agroforest and agriculture, that could be statistically grouped. The pasture was not similar to the others systems in neither aspect evaluated. The ecosystem services were related to the abundance, richness and biomass of dung beetles in the evaluation arena. The habitat complexity influence indirectly in the environmental services provided by scarabeine dung beetles, because with a simplification of ambient by man, the dung betle community is affected, changing in abundance, richness and biomass and these factors result in a redution of ecossystem services performance.
