RESUMO

In order to obtain both quality, cuttings and ornamental plants the propagation through tissue culture technique was used for increases the number of plants and decreases time consumption. It also ensures both plant uniformity and phitosanitary quality. Acclimatization is one of the most critical phases of the micro propagation process as it not only is stressful for the seedlings but also make them vulnerable fungi and bacteria. Silicon is a nutrient whose function is, among others, to give plants resistance. Its use during the acclimatization phase may minimize the water stress, thus increasing plant resistance. This work as carried out with the objective of finding the silicon effect on the acclimatization of micro propagated plants with focus on chrysanthemum and kalanchoe. After being grown in vitro, plants transferred to trays containing commercial substrate Plantmax  for kalanchoe and Rendmax  for chrysanthemum. They were then were treated separately with leaf fertilizer, potassium silicate and sodium silicate in doses as follows: 0; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 and 2,0 mg. L-1 silicon. A randomized â block design in a 2 x 5 factorial arrangement with four replications and three plants per plot was used. Plants were kept in environment either with or without intermittent nebulization. Results show that silicon did not seem to affect plants height after a thirty-day-evaluation. Neither sources nor doses of silicon influenced on the plants budding being of 100% for two species. Silicates was found to increase the chlorophyll content in kalanchoe plants kept in environment with no nebulization. However, when this nutrient was used on chrysanthemum plants kept under nebulization it influenced on the stomata diameter of the plant as well as the parenchymaâs thickness. No response for epidermis thickness.
