RESUMO

This investigation has attempted to identify the effects of a Leadership Developing Program upon the change of behavior of a group of intermediate leaders of a furniture business in Caxias do Sul / RS. This was accomplished by means of a questionnaire to evaluate behavioral skills, which was applied before and after the training both for trainees and for some of the subordinates of management trainees, by observations made along the program, and by semi-structured interviews with some of the trainees. Results from the questionnaires showed, from the subordinates point of view, more security in their leaders to take decisions, as well as more commitment to the ides of serving clients well. On the other hand, from the trainees perception results showed leadership improvement by learning other management tools. Still, the results from observations and semi-structured interviews pointed out changes such as improvement of team awareness and cooperation, of the ways to deal with employees, revision and self-analysis of behavior and attitudes, improved critical sense, improved communication process, more integration, more control over personal style, improved self-esteem and improved management-subordinate relationship.
