RESUMO

Due to the increaase need of health life, new no-pharmacologic alternatives is growing up aiming the prevention of diseases and to benefit health in the World. In this way greater emphasis, had been done to obtain new microorganisms with probiotic attributes, which in Zymomonas mobilis may be regarding his antagonic capacity against pathogenic microorganisms, comproved by âin vitroâ studies. The condition of âin vivoâ studies are very important to observe possible effects in clinic, haematologic, bacteriologic and histologic parameters. Wistar rats were maintened under conventional conditions, randomized in two distinct groups: 1 â treated â rats submitted to Z. mobilis (109 UFC/mL/rat/day); 2 â treated rats receiving water (both for gavage), by 30 days. During the experimental period the rats were weighted and general characteristics of animal health. To evaluate the haematologic parameters , blood was collected (1 mL/rat), by cardiac puncture , and determined total and differential leucocytes. Fecal material (100mg) were collected to E. coli and Enterococcus analysis. The haematological and bacteriological parameters were realized in two periods: before microbial application (T0) and after application (T30), for both groups. After the 30 days period the animals were sacrified for extraction of intestine, liver and lien organs, for histological evaluation. The possibility of bacterial translocation (Zymomonas, E. coli e Enterococcus) to animal blood was observed. The results demonstrated that Zymomonas mobilis after period of 30 days did not influence the weight gain of animals; did not cause qualitative morphological changes between control and experimental groups, it was evidenced by histological study of liver, spleen and gut, it did not promote bacterial translocation toward the blood and it did not promote alterations in the total and differential leukocyte count. However, there were alterations in the behavior of intestinal microbiota, which has been evidenced a difference in the E. coli count. In this sense, it can be conclude that Zymomonas mobilis is an nonpathogenic and non-toxic bacterium according to its behavior, therefore, it is secure for consume
