RESUMO

Interceed is an absorbable sheet made of oxidized cellulose often used to prevent adhesions mainly in gynecology surgeries. OBJECTIVES: to evaluate if there is adhesion reduction after tendon repair when using absorbable sheet (Interceed) as a physical barrier of protection. MATERIAL AND METHOD: 20 Wistar rats divided in 3 groups were used. The first group, which containing 05 animals, was considered the reference group. This group did not undergo surgery and their measures were used as reference values. The other rats (n=15) underwent. There was a surgical intervention on the calcaneus tendon of the rear right leg using the modified Kessler technique. This group was considered the control group. The rear left legs were submitted to the same treatment but the tendon was rapped in a piece of Interceed right after the tenorraphy. This group was considered the study group. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of the adhesion degree were made. Morphometry of skeletal muscle fibers were made to assess the skeletal muscle trophysm. RESULTS: The qualitative analysis of the adhesion degree was statistically the same both in the control group and in the study group. In the quantitative analyses was observed less adherence in the study group. In the morphometric analyses the size of the muscle fibers in the study group was bigger than the one in the control group displaying higher degree of atrophy in the control group. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: the use of the Interceed in surgery of tendon repair reduced the instances of adhesion; therefore, helping precocious joint movement, minimizing the degree of atrophy for not being in used.
