RESUMO

This study evaluated the influence of the post-compressing rest time (immediate, 12 h and 24 h) and the cycles of polymerization (conventional, fast cycle, and by microwave energy) on the adaptation of complete denture bases made with the fast polymerization acrylic resin QC-20. Forty-five plaster rock models were made from a metallic master model of an edentulous maxilla. Using these models, denture bases with a uniform thickness of 1.5 mm were obtained. These bases were then randomly divided into 9 groups of 5 samples each: Group 1- post-compressing rest immediate time and conventional polymerization; Group 2- post-compressing rest immediate time and fast cycle polymerization; Group 3- post-compressing rest immediate time and polymerization by microwave energy; Group 4- post-compressing rest time 12 h and conventionalpolymerization;Group 5- post-compress ingrest time 12 h and fast cycle polymerization; Group 6- post-compressing rest time 12 h and polymerization by microwave energy; Group 7- post-compressing rest time 24 hours and conventional polymerization; Group 8- postcompressing rest time 24 hours and fast cycle polymerization; and Group 9- post-compressing rest time 24 hours and polymerization by microwave energy. After cooling the flasks at room temperature, the denture bases were removed, trimmed, finished and fixed in their respective plaster models with adhesive Super Bonder (Loctite). The denture base-modeI set was sectioned in three frontal sections, and the surfaces were polished with sandpaper in an electric polishing machine. In each section, seven reference points were marked for the recording of the gap between base and model using an optical microscope. Data were analyzed at the 5 % leveI of significance. The results suggest that the post-compressing rest time did not influence the adaptation of denture bases. The widest gap occurred in section C (posterior) independent1y of the post-compressing rest time and cyc1e of polymerization
