RESUMO

The present work shows experimental data confirming the importance of light coherence in the process of wound healing stimulated by lasers. The results were obtained through a comparativa study of biostimulating effects obtained by the use of laser light and laser light with low degree of coherence. In this study we use standardized lesions resulting from the application of liquid N2 on the dorsal region of rats. The results seem to indicate good clinical applications in human beings. Concerning the technical aspect, this thesis also presents a theoretical model based on the importance of optical coherence wich is related to the ordenation of the eletromagnetical waves in the laser beam. The basic principies of laser physics and of its interaction with biological tissue are reviewed and described in an accessible way so that professionals interested on the matter can use it as a reference in further works.
