RESUMO
To determine the effect of resin composite placement techniques and the acid etching of the liner on the microleakage of sandwich restorations. Class V cavities were prepared at buccal surface with margins in dentin in sixty bovine incisors. Six groups of ten teeth each were restored as follow: Group A) Single Bond/Z250 (2 increments); Group B) Single Bond/Z250 (bulk insertion); Group C) Vitrebond with surface acid etching/Single Bond/Z250 (2 increments); Group D) Vitrebond with surface acid etching/Single Bond/Z250 (bulk insertion); Group E) Vitrebond/Single Bond/Z250 (2 increments); Group F) Vitrebond/Single Bond/Z250 (bulk insertion). Vitrebond was inserted with thickness of 0.5 mm. The first resin composite increment was placed at incisal margin. After restorations, the teeth were imersed in aqueous solution of 0.5 % basic fuchsin for 24 h. The samples were sectioned and dye penetration were measured in milimeters by using a computer program (ImageTool, UTHSCSA). Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, paired "t" test and Tukey test (µ = 0.05). There were no statistical difference on the total microleakage between groups A and B, neither the groups C, D, E and F. Significant difference were shown between groups with resin modified glass ionomer liner and those without. There were significant difference between incisal and gingival margins for all the groups, except for group F. There were no significant difference among incisal margins. At gingival margins, there were no difference among groups A, B and C; B, C and D; and C, D, E and F. It can be concluded that neither surface acid etching of Vitrebond nor placement techniques of resin composite affected Class V microleakage. Sandwich restorations may lead to less microleakage in dentin cavities than resin composite restorations.
