RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the weight variation of Coe-80ft resilient material when stored in artificial saliva and submitted to treatments with Polident and Efferdent chemical denture cleansers. Forty-eight samples made of resilient material were divided, randomly, in four graups: two experimental (G3 and G4) and two contrai graups (G1 and G2), that were immersed in artificial saliva and kept at 37 ± 2°C temperature during the whole period of the study. The samples of the experimental graups were immersed daily in Polident or Efferdent solutions for 5 and 15 minutes, respectively, and the samples of the contrai were immersed in water, during a period of 15 days. The rates of weight were accomplished just after the samples were made (To), after 24 hours (T 1), with 7 days (T2) and 15 days (T3). The results (means and standard deviation) for the weight loss of material (mg) comparing the graups in each time (capitalletters) and the influence of time (small letters) for each graup were: G1=2,71±0,08Aa; 2,65 ± 0,08Ab; 2,63 ± 0,08Abc; 2,60 ± 0,11Ac; G2=2,66 ± 0,08Aa; 2,61 ± 0,09Ab; 2,58 ± 0,08Ac; 2,57 ± 0,08Ad; G3=2,65 ± 0,14Aa; 2,60 ± 0,14Ab; 2,58± 0,14Ac; 2,57 ±0,14Ad; G4=2,63 ±0, 11Aa; 2,58 ±0,11Ab; 2,55 ± 0,11Ac; 2,54 ± 0,11Ad. Means followed by different letters are statistically different themselves (p<0,05) by Tukey test. Based on these results it was possible concluded that the Coe-Soft liner resilient, when it is immersed in artificial saliva it lost weight before the beggining of 3 treatment with cleanser agents for dentures and the weight loss proceded during ali the time studied period, independently of the treatment used.
